This flag was designed by Eric Soong of
Hebei, China, a member of the forum.
History:
The flag was officially adopted on
February 24, 2005, after being voted on by the forum's members. The current design is a variant of Eric's original design. There were
multiple other
designs suggested by the forum's members, but only two were selected
for the final candidates. The final
result of the vote was: 11 votes for Eric's
flag, 6 votes for Vexillus's
flag. To see some of the other suggestions
for the design, look at the original
discussion about the flag.
Symbolism:
Eric's idea for the design came from the navy signal book. The
arrangement of white squares on blue means "N" and the areas circled in
red mean "A" ("NA" - short for "National Anthems").
The eight squares which comprise the note signify the eight main boards
of the forum. And it has four squares in it. They signify the Atlantic,
Pacific, Indian, and Arctic Oceans. The green segment signifies the
color of the forum. While the symbolism in Eric's second design is
not as easy to comprehend as the first design, this flag has a much
more distinctive look, and fits better with the website. Thanks to
Eric Soong for a great design!abeam-correlative
